Why get a distribution license when it is
distributed freely at our web site?
A natural question to ask. As
we have indicated in some of the scenarios for using Across Lite, it would be sufficient
to point at our web site for your audience to get a copy of Across Lite.
However, there are some reasons why getting a distribution license is
necessary and/or desirable in many situations.
Net-challenged consumers
Many of the
potential customers in your target market may not have net access. This
is particularly true if you are using a mailed diskette distribution or
retail store sales to target home computers. In such a case, you can not
assume that your customers can pick up a copy from elsewhere.
Product differentiation
In most
marketing scenarios, including a copy of the software, especially a
customized one can differentiate your product from other similar
offerings.
Customer convenience
It may
benefit/behoove your image to include the software as a service to your
customer even if the customer has the means to pick up a copy from our
web site.
